Cable pulling is a process used in electrical and telecommunication installations to route cables through conduits, ducts, or along designated paths. It often requires specialised tools and equipment to ensure safe and efficient installation. Here’s a brief description of cable pulling using duct rods, capstan winches, and pulling ropes:

1. Duct Rods: Also known as "cobras, conduit rods, flexi-rods" or "fish rods," these are flexible, extendable rods that help guide pulling ropes or cables through conduits, especially in tight or hard-to-reach spaces. Duct rods are commonly used for small-scale cable pulling in confined areas like walls, ceilings, or underground ducts. They provide precise control for threading cables through complex pathways.

2. Capstan Winches: A capstan winch is a mechanical device used for pulling cables over long distances. The winch features a rotating drum (the capstan) around which a pulling rope is wound. As the capstan rotates, it pulls the cable or rope with a controlled, steady force, minimising the risk of cable damage. Capstan winches are typically powered by an engine and are useful for heavy-duty cable installations, such as pulling large power or telecom cables through underground ducts or across open spaces.

3. Pulling Ropes: These are durable ropes designed to pull cables through conduits or ducts. They are usually made from materials like polyester or polypropylene, which offer high tensile strength and low stretch. The pulling rope is attached to the cable and then pulled through the conduit using manual labour, a capstan winch, or other pulling equipment. Pulling ropes are chosen based on their strength and compatibility with the weight and length of the cable being installed.
