Lifting Block & Tackle
What is a block and tackle?
A block and tackle system, also known as a manual chain hoist or chainblock, featuring top and bottom hooks uses a rope, cable, or on the case of a hand chain block chain connected between two or more pulleys.
How is a block and tackle operated?
This tool is typically used to lift and lower hefty loads and is composed of a lifting chain, hand chain, top hook to suspend from a beam clamp or trolley, lower hook to connect to the load you are lifting and two wheels.
The chain is wound around the wheels and, when pulled, creates tension that holds the load off the ground.
What can a block and tackle be used for?
Due to their hefty lifting capacity, chainblocks are often used for removing car engines in garages, on assembly lines, live event production, theatrical and at construction sites.
At Orplex Ltd, through our websites or by phone and email we offer a selection of manual chain blocks with various lifting capacities suitable for a wide array of operations.
